Sapium sebiferum
(Chinese Tallow)
Medium tree normally growing 35-45′ tall, open canopy.
Leaves: deciduous, alternate, simple, entire margin, deltoid to ovate or rhomboid, 2″ to 4″ long.
Flowers: yellow, spring, attracts bees.
Fruit: round, 1/2″ in length, dry and hard, brown, opening to white, showy, causes some litter, germinates in landscape.
Twigs: green, slender.
Bark: branches droop slightly as tree grows, should be grown with a single leader.
Comments: Very invasive species, urban tolerant, wood is brittle, thrive in confined soil spaces. Not recommended for planting.
