Arizona Ash

Fraxinus velutina

Medium sized tree usually growing 40′ to 55′ tall with large rounded canopy.

Leaves: deciduous, dark green in summer showy yellow in fall, opposite, odd pinnately compound, serrate margin, oval to lanceolate, 1″ to 2″ long.

Flowers: green, not showy, spring.

Fruit: elongated, winged, 1/2″ to 1″ in length, dry, green turning tan, causes abundant litter.

Twigs: gray, medium to stout.

Bark: gray to brown, branches grow mostly upright.

Comments: fast growing, difficult to maintain, tolerant of wet soil, very susceptible to bores, do not recommend planting.
